I OPPOSE this project because (choose all that apply to you):

• I do not want radioactive waste in my neighborhood. Phosphogypsum emits radon gas, which causes cancer, especially lung cancer. This is unacceptable to me because ________________

• I fish in Blind River/Lake Maurepas/Lake Pontchartrain and this project presents a danger to fish and wildlife. The toxic process water that this gypstack would store would cause fish kills throughout the entire waterway if there was an accident, which would harm me because ______________

• The gypstack and water contain heavy metals like lead, mercury, and cadmium. These metals get into the soil, water, and fish for decades. Heavy metals are especially dangerous to young children, and my children are ______________ years old and go to school ______________ miles away.

• My enjoyment of my land and property would be affected if a 300 foot waste dump was built nearby. If I had to look at, hear, and smell this new gypstack all day, I would feel ____________. My property value would also go down if this gypstack were built.

• Gypstacks are an unsafe method of waste disposal. Just look at the Piney Point gypstack in Florida. When that gypstack leaked, it caused a red tide and the deaths of millions of fish. Dealing with that gypstack is costing Florida taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars. I don’t want my tax dollars going towards propping up a technology that is so likely to fail.

• I already deal with enough pollution in my community. There are ____________ plants near my home. Some of the health effects my family and I already suffer are ____________.
